The presentation, which will be held as part of the SAP NOW Conference at Berlin Tempelhof Airport on 14th of March 2019 at 1 pm is entitled “Industrial Analytics with SAP HANA at Steinbeis Papier”.

Steinbeis Papier operates one of the most modern recycling paper plants in Europe. The company can look back on over 40 years of experience in ecologically-integrated paper manufacture. With a production capacity of around 300,000 tons of office, magazine and digital printing paper per year, the company deals with trading partners in Germany, Europe and overseas.

The Industry 4.0 project, which Steinbeis implemented in collaboration with avato within one year, includes semantic data integration, machine learning models and the automatic detection of anomalies in process and quality parameters. Data from multiple sources are merged and are then made available in standardised form for data analysts, engineers and other specialist users. SAP HANA is used as the central analytical database. That is where all data is stored, integrated with e.g. ERP or MES systems, analysed and complemented with meta data. The in-memory data compression in SAP HANA allows the efficient storage and real-time analysis of hundreds of billions of datasets per year.

Highlights of the avato solution include

  • the integration of over 20,000 sensors via auto-discovery and smart streaming within record time,
  • the automated semantic integration of data from various sources like production data and data from MES and ERP systems and the temporal synchronisation of process and quality data along the process chain,
  • modular and analytical services like self-service reporting, the use of state-of-the-art machine learning processes or the automated, cross-system anomaly detection in sensor and business process data.

The avato Smart Data platform offers high flexibility for customers, while the modular architecture allows the step-by-step development of a comprehensive Industry 4.0 solution. Additionally, individual customer-side components already in place can be integrated in the solution.

The approach, solution architecture, results and experiences will be presented by Ulrich Middelberg, Head of IT at Steinbeis Papier GmbH. avato experts will be at hand for any questions at SAP NOW.
